After reading more, I learned you do not have to buy an iPad. The textbooks work on iPad, iPhone, Kindle, Samsung tablets, and Android able devices. My one concern was for my daughter in engineering classes. She takes many notes in her textbooks. After checking the website, it seems students can take notes in the margins, which is exactly what she is used to doing when she makes notes. Her roommate does not have any of the electronic devices listed but eBooks can be read on any desktop pc, laptop and a Macintosh system.
For me, here is the biggest reason to let my girls both sign up for Touch Textbooks. Based on the first semester costs for textbooks, that I almost could not afford, I can buy both girls an iPad, pay the Touch Textbooks registration fee and break even by the end of the second semester of next year.
That’s only three semesters textbooks expense to have free textbooks for the next two years undergraduate university classes. If you used this program for a freshman university or college student you would have broken even last semester. If your student already has a portable eBook reader of some type you break even the first semester.

Okay, so here is an update even before this article is posted. My youngest daughter went ahead and signed up. Here is what she finds inside the Touch Textbooks members area. When she signed in, she came to a page with introductory information. That page has a search box to be used for locating the textbook you need. There is also a list of the most popular downloads. That is very useful since many schools use the same textbooks.
She is taking some engineering courses with newly published books. Surprise, the books were on the list. She clicked on the name of the book, selected download and the download process began immediately. She also found the link for customer service, in case she has problems and instructions on how to take notes and place highlights for pages in use. Bottom line for our family on Touch Textbooks for college students is our opinion this is one of the best decisions a college student can make while getting started at college.
I joined Touch Textbooks some days ago because of the article on your blog. I thought it was just another hype, but I was wrong. I am really amazed of how many textbooks they offer and how easy it is to find textbooks and download them to ipad.
